Harrison College
Harrison College School of Veterinary Technology started in September of 2007 and offers an Associate of Applied Science degree from an AVMA accredited site. The program is 24 months with each course lasting 12 weeks. Following the successful completion of all courses, students complete a 12 week externship at a veterinary facility. Upon graduation Harrison students sit for the VTNE and state examination to become a credentialed RVT.
From day one of starting the Harrison program, students are surrounded by animals and hands on interaction. The on site kennel is housed with dogs, cats, mice, rats, and rabbits. Large animal experience is obtained through local farms and facilities that invite us to utilize and assist with their animals. Clinical experience is not only gained from the labs and activities in the Harrison classroom, but also at sites such as the vaccination clinic at the Humane Society of Indianapolis that is staffed by Harrison instructors and students.
There are two major organizations for students to get involved with at Harrison. The HCVTA provides an opportunity for community service and socialization with activities such as the Mutt Strut, humane society dog wash, and the Wolf Walk. Another organization for students is IVAPM (International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management) and involves bringing in veterinary professionals to speak with students on different areas of pain management. Students are also involved in wet labs that present these concepts.
